Families in Angus are in for a memorable summer as Angus Council collaborates with over 60 local organisations to provide fun activities, childcare, and tailored support to children, young people, and families over the summer holidays.
The goal is to assist low-income households in accessing free summer activities, daycare, and food, recognising the value of expanding chances for children to play, socialise, get active, and participate in a variety of activities that extend their experiences.
The summer programme is supported by Angus Council’s Holiday Food and Fun budget as well as the Scottish Government’s Summer Holiday Food and Childcare 2022 programme.
Angus Council’s spokesperson for youth engagement and opportunities, Cllr Lloyd Melville said: “Summer holidays are an exciting time for children and young people, but we know times are tough for families financially.
“The funding from Scottish Government and our own holiday food and fun budget means we can build on the success of previous activities we delivered last year and reach even more children this summer with our summer 2022 programme.
“We’re delighted to once again be working with partners throughout Angus to offer such a wide variety of activities, with some targeted support specifically for low-income households but with many events available for all our children, young people and families.
“We’re also pleased to offer a family bus pass throughout the school summer holidays, allowing adults to travel free of cost helping them get to the events on offer or to travel to the many beaches, parks and attractions in Angus for a fun day out.”
Free swimming for school children with ANGUSalive, Murton Farm, footgolf sessions, Angus Cycle Hub’s free summer activity programme, Angus Council’s 16+ programme, activities with the Vibrant Communities Team throughout Angus, Community Sports Hubs, and many more will take place across venues from Thursday 30 June to Monday 15 August 2022.
Angus Carers Centre, Angus Council services, Carlogie Fun Club, Dundee and Angus ADHD Help Group, Glen Isla and Glen Clova Projects, Home-Start Angus, PAMIS, and The Wee Childcare Company already provide focused support for individual children and families.
This year’s offer also includes a pilot programme for free or low-cost childcare for specific groups of youngsters. In 2023, this provision will be enlarged.
